In my CAP Journalism class, students can expect an emphasis on classical journalistic standards such as neutrality in reporting and rigorous sourcing while learning to navigate and participate in the modern media landscape. We’ll explore digital, print, video and radio platforms. We will consume blog posts, cartoons, newspaper features, interactive data visualizations and broadcast packages. We’ll analyze bias from all across the American political spectrum and learn about how our First Amendment rights compare to reporters in other parts of the world. Students will engage in respectful and passionate discourse on the ancient art of storytelling as they hone their skills at it.
When not teaching English and Journalism, I play ukulele and freelance as a data journalist. My reporting has appeared in The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, The Baltimore Sun and NBC Washington. My ukulele talents have yet to be recognized.
